biden v palin [grrrrr...]

hey, don't forget to watch joe biden kick palin's ass all the way back to alaska on thursday at 6 pm for the one and only vice-presidential debate. it should be a hoot. i thought the good old boys would want to start WWIII before they let this woman speak on national television. biden's gonna kill her. i can't wait for her to make a complete half-wit of herself. i truly hope the undecided voters are really watching these debates and seeing for themselves how a vote more mccain is a vote for bush. as for palin? eve ensler summed it up for me best ... "I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists." amen. vote november 4, 2008. vote for change. vote obama. peace.

these are days

"these are the days you might fill with laughter until you break ... these days you might feel a shaft of light make it's way across your face ... and when you do then you'll know how it was meant to be ... see the signs and know their meaning ... it's true ... then you'll know how it was meant to be ... hear the signs and know they're speaking to you"

eve ensler ... swiped from ro's blog

"I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears. ** I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.?? ** But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war. ** I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity. ** Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."?? ** Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.?? ** She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.?? ** Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.?? ** Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.?? ** Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.?? ** I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression. If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.??Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?" -eve ensler

iTunes hell

i have been trying to recover all of my lost music for weeks now. you all know that i "lost" all of my iTunes library from my external hard drive. well, i got most of it back from sharon but not all of my music had made it to the external drive apparently. i'm now replacing existing files with my cd's but i split the cd's in the divorce so i've lost a lot of music. all the music i bought from iTunes that was not on the external are gone. i can't find a way to e-mail iTunes and ask if there is a way to recover them since i already bought them. it's such a process because my computer is low on virtual memory often it just freezes. when i sign in on the guest side i don't have as many problems. so sometimes about half way through ripping a cd it freezes and i have to start all over again. it's exhausting. not to mention i can't hit the freaking return key on the computer due to the coffee spill. a new computer will have to wait. i'm broke and the que is killing me right now. it's been sloooooow. it happens every year and i'm never prepared. i'm more scared this year cause, you know, i own a home and all. peace, y'all. NO ON MEASURE 8 IN CALIFORNIA. VOTE FOR CHANGE. VOTE FOR PEACE. VOTE OBAMA.

glory

[demon god glory] [mama corin tucker & marshall tucker bangs]

last time i saw my former riot grrrl turned hairdresser, gilly, she informed me that corin tucker of sleater-kinney fame has had a new baby girl and named her glory. now, it's known that ms tucker is a buffy the vampire slayer fan and i couldn't help but wonder/hope that she named her new daughter after the hilariously demon god glory from the delicious season 6 of btvs. i suppose i will never know because i would be too embarrassed to ever ask gilly if it's true. VOTE OBAMA, MAMA!

no gas tonight in my hot water heater...

...no gas tonight on my stove. it's true. bear's been cut off of the gas supply. because my hot water is paid for through HOA and i only dust my stove, i never switched the gas bill into my name. hell, i didn't even know i was supposed to get a gas bill. the sweet guy on the other end this morning informed me that the soonest someone could come out was thursday. what? i asked him how i should clean myself. i've been offered showers at sharon and johna's but i really wanted him to tell me -- not everyone is as lucky to have friends who will allow me to clean at their house. well, sharon probably didn't know it'd be for 2 days. well, i got a shower in after i power washed everything in sight yesterday afternoon; so after work today i go to sharon's to clean rsq off of me. scully is so muddled in mats this summer that i think another shaving is in her future. this time, i plan on really trying to get into a routine of brushing her when she doesn't have mats. she needs to know that brushing can be enjoyable, not just when she has mats and it hurts. because she has such long hair i have to be able to maintain it. i know she's old and you can't teach an old cat new tricks, but i think scully is the exception to the rule. it only took her a month to realize she could walk right through the screen at the back door. jen's cat moe took about 10 minutes to come on in and help herself to a snack and cat nip - but that's my monster. i've retrieved my iTunes from sharon but not all the music is there - some of it just never made it. soooo, i've been going through, seeing what's missing and making spreadsheets. some of it is lost, some of it is on my c drive and some cd's i lost in the divorce. the ones that are lost that i've downloaded from iTunes really gets me bothered. i feel like since it's been purchased digitally there should be a way to get them back. i can't seem to figure out how to contact iTunes regarding this matter. perhaps it's just not possible. i guess i have to figure out which ones i can't live without. my iPod is full of the old iTunes library so i may just keep my iPod as is. here's a question - jason, perhaps? once i've gone through and replaced existing files with my hard copies, can i plug my iPod into my computer and upload new songs without the ones on the iPod that are not in my library anymore going away? does this make sense? so many questions, so little time. well, everyone, things are getting serious. we must vote in droves to keep out the oldest guy to run for president and the pit bull with lipstick. this woman makes me ropable. i normally tell people i don't care who they vote for but i do this time. obama for change people. get out in the streets and make sure "they" don't steal the election again. because they are already trying. make sure your vote, and ALL votes, are counted! get registered. if you live here in portland many local restaurants and cafe's have become places to register. hell, even rsq is registering people. we are also showing our support for obama...

vote november 4, 2008. vote for change we can believe in. vote barack obama.

blogging with my homies

this photo was taken after me and the girls (johna, sharon and di) made 20 miles on our bikes and to the top of the fremont bridge after the bridge pedal. we were so pleased with ourselves. i made copies for all of us because i thought it was a really great photo and we had such a fun day. sharon came over to my house and promptly said "look at my hair! why do you have to have this picture out?!" i said, so i suppose you don't want your copy? sharon's first reaction to this photo was her hair. thoughts? i think she just looks like sharon. 20 miles! come on! it's a $5,000 suit! [gob bluth anyone?] we all look a little worse for wear. anyway, i have an extra copy if anyone wants it. yesterday i spent the entire day living through cramps and doing absolutely nothing. well, i did laundry and cleaned the shower/tub combo plus the dishes. i only went out to get tacos at por que no? and went to bed early. i hadn't just been at home for quite some time. let's see if i can get a video to upload before the internet freezes and i'm kicked off. this is a much smaller file than the obama video. you can see that one on youtube. i'll link it from here once it's uploaded. ok. it's uploaded. now the processing. that's what can take forever. i think i did it! i'm posting and checking it out! entry 2

[project runway spoilers below!!] after having been riding my bike to and from work and all around the neighborhood, i noticed that support for barack obama in portland oregon is in great abundance. out of every 10 houses, at least 7 or 8 have obama signs in their yards. i, shockingly, decided to make a movie. so i started taking photos. i'm missing 2 key shots - the killingsworth headquarters and "hens for obama". i just haven't had time to stop by those places. i'll post the hens for obama sooon. here's a test to see if i can post video here. today begins johna's birthday weekend. we have breakfast at sharon's at 10, pick up her friend stephanie at noon ad the alberta street fair is going on and so is scrap iron. then later tonight we see michael franti. good times. then tomorrow - well, i need a break. i haven't done any self care in like 2 weeks. i think it's time to just chill. for real. to finish (and while my video is uploading), i think we should discuss some reality tv. i know it's over but i just loved, loved, loved this season of "so you think you can dance." the top 4 dancers were so good that i just didn't care who won, but my heart swelled when joshua won. [for those who watched, didn't you just love when cat deeley said "josh-ua"?] it was for sure my favorite show during the summer. "big brother 10." wow. dan has probably played one of the most brilliant big brother games - well, ever. sorry dr. will, dan takes the cake on this one. the biggest difference between dan and dr. will is that dr. will just basically told people he was lying, dan has masterfully played and evicted every person in the house. dan should have been evicted in the second or third week, but he changed the game in his favor. i was rooting for keesha and reny to make it to the end - but to no avail. they feel under the spell of trusting dan and memphis. keesha, however, had a moment of clarity as she was walking out the door and dan told her his secret about taking michelle on his luxury trip. she realized it and said it in a confessional in the jury house - dan has played the best game of anyone in the house. now it's down to memphis and dan. i hope the jury house sees how brilliantly dan played the game and they reward him with the, pathetic, half million dollar prize. what else? oh, "project runway." yes. i just really love this show. there were some not so good designers this year - blayne? really? the adding "liscious" to everything was so annoying. seeing him be aufed was good. actually seeing terry go was sort of a relief too. i'm so pleased with our portland girl, leanne. she is kicking ass and taking names. 2 challenges in a row? with immunity? that's how you do it. she was also in the top 4 this week. the oregonian posted that leanne was the 6th person to be eliminated. lies, lies! the rate she's going she could make the top 4 i think. thank god someone cool to represent portland on a reality show. most of them have gone on to nothing good and look like fools in the process. [on a side note: storm large from 'rock star' was in russell street bbq last week looking smokin' hot. really. plus, she's super cool and a big tipper. oh, and her business credit card says "storm large and the balls." the balls are her band but to see that on an amex was amusing. anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program...] i'm looking forward to "survivor: gabon" - it should be great. a 2-hour premiere and in high-def? honestly. i've even gotten the night off of work. dork. this video is taking forever to load. perhaps it's too large. i may have to cancel. we'll talk soon people.

new blog

hey everyone i've decided to try a new blog over here. i want to see if it's easier to manage photos and videos. i don't wish to pay for that luxury over at livejournal so if this is easier i'll haul it all over here. i'll post more later -- gotta motor. peace.
